The Savage Dragon - back when he was an ordinary near-invulnerable green-skinned fin-headed beat cop, the Dragon - with the help of Destroyer Duck - was the one who got Leonard away from those who were exploiting him. His own comic, by Erik Larsen, is very worthy, and more obviously the work of an artist who loves his creation than just about any comic book ever. The official site has lots for you to see.
